uBlock Origin package for Abrowser: Please include the webext-ublock-origin-firefox package in the default Trisquel installation
- I just tried to install uBlock Origin with:
sudo apt-get install webext-ublock-origin-firefox
- To demonstrate: Temporarily rename ~/.mozilla/abrowser/ to something else, then start abrowser to generate a fresh browser profile. uBlock Origin will be installed, (see about:addons on the screenshot)!
It would be nice if webext-ublock-origin-firefox was installed in Trisquel by default.
IceCat comes with SpyBlock (a fork of Adblock Plus without the whitelists). From https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-gnuzilla/2016-04/msg00030.html:
"I made the Spyblock hack before uBlock was available (or well known
anyway). It could be replaced, provided that we can implement with uBlock the same features SpyBlock provides over Adblock: extra lists that get enabled when entering private mode.
Since Spyblock is providing the desired functionality right now, replacing it for the sake of performance is not a priority compared with improving LibreJS, which is what I'll be working on next. But if somebody wants to contribute that code I'll be happy to add it."
Facts:
- "In January 2016, uBlock Origin was added to the repositories for Debian 9 and Ubuntu 16.04." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBlock_Origin#uBlock_Origin
- uBlock Origin supports the majority of Adblock Plus's filter syntax.
- uBlock Origin is the most popular add-on in AMO - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=ublock&sort=users
