Pidgin messaging client: consider including encryption plugins pidgin-otr and purple-lurch in the default install
Pidgin is the default XMPP client in Trisquel, but it does not come with OMEMO nor OTR installed by default. They are available separately through these plugins:
OMEMO: https://packages.trisquel.org/aramo/purple-lurch
OTR: https://packages.trisquel.org/aramo/pidgin-otr
I was not able to test them extensively, and do not know of any code review or security audit, but they install and show up as expected in the plugin list in Pidgin. OTR works as expected with XMPP: each user needs to send a Q/A pair and answer the other user's question correctly for the conversation to be marked as "Private".
Both plugins are currently listed on the Pidgin plugins page: https://pidgin.im/plugins/?publisher=all&query=&type=Security+and+Privacy
