ubiquity: "Don't ask for password on login"/"Require my password to login", does not setup a proper LightDM configuration
Disclaimer: I discovered this issue when I installed Trisquel on a hard drive, so the issue has nothing to do with virt-manager that I used to take a screenshot from.
Installation with "Log in automatically" enabled
- Trisquel 11 installation steps: Select "Log in automatically" during installation
- Reboot
Issue 1: Users and Groups
Open System -> Control Center -> Users and Groups
Issue 1.1
"Password" should display "Not asked on login" but it displays "Asked on login"
Issue 1.2
For the user, click on the "Change" button for "Password" and uncheck "Don't ask for password on login", enter your root pass, and press on the "OK" button to let the changes take effect. Reboot. LightDM is not started, so no password is being asked for!
Default installation ("Require my password to login")
- Trisquel 11 installation steps: Choose the pre-selected "Require my password to login" during installation
- Reboot
- When Trisquel is booted, LightDM will ask for password.
Issue 2: LightDM is not bypassed
Change System -> Control Center -> Users and Groups. For the user, click on the "Change" button for "Password" and uncheck "Don't ask for password on login", enter your root pass, and press on the "OK" button to let the changes take effect. Reboot. When Trisquel is booted, it will start LightDM (in Ubuntu the GDM is not displayed when "Log in automatically" is enabled).
