"upstream issue open" label
Most issues here on https://gitlab.trisquel.org/ are upstream issues. We'll analyze and deal with them depending on their priority (bug triage).
The reason why upstream bugs are submitted here is because bugs submitted Ubuntu could stay open years, even with the patch on the comments. If the Ubuntu Team sets "Low Importance" then it is forgotten.
Trisquel maintains around ~300 packages just as package-helpers for each release, out of a repo of ~60K, if we use the Pareto principle (and the statistics) it possible than more than 80% of issues are upstream issues, then less than ~20% might be trisquel ones.
You can submit all kind of bugs here on GitLab, whether they are: Unique for Trisquel, all kinds of upstream bugs -- including bugs that already been submitted by someone else for Ubuntu.
Guidelines
Guidelines for issues with the "upstream issue" label.
Bug detection
- Is this an old bug? Try to find the link to an existing Ubuntu bug in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate, https://bugs.launchpad.net/mate-desktop/, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-desktop-installer/, etc.
- Is this a new bug?: Try reproduce bugs in Ubuntu (we recommend the virt-manager package) before you are submitting bugs here on Gitlab.
Submit upstream bugs
Ubuntu
- If you can reproduce the bug in Ubuntu: 1) Report it to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug/?no-redirect
https://gitlab.trisquel.org/
File a upstream bug atIf it is not important, then do not submit it to https://gitlab.trisquel.org/ to avoid noise in the tracker. Remember that we are a small team with limited resources.
Otherwise, if the Ubuntu issue is important (for example if it must be solved to fix other issues on https://bugs.launchpad.net/), and you think you or anyone else will to submit a patch for it, then you can submit a bug report at https://gitlab.trisquel.org/ :
- Open a new issue and copy/paste the content from the bug report that you submitted at https://bugs.launchpad.net/
- Request an admin to add the "upstream issue" label to the issue
- Add the Ubuntu bug report link to the Trisquel issue and vice-versa:
- Add the Trisquel upstream bug report link to the Ubuntu bug report.
- If the bug patch is submitted in https://gitlab.trisquel.org/ first, then do not forget to upload the patch to the bug report that you filed at https://bugs.launchpad.net/.
